Hello Changemakers,
Let’s face it….putting yourself out there online can feel intimidating, especially when you’re just starting. You wonder if your ideas are good enough, if anyone will care, or if you’ll stumble into a digital void where your voice feels unheard.
Sound familiar?
And believe me, I’ve been there. In my work as a journalist, columnist, and managing communications for EU projects, I’ve had moments of hesitation like wondering if my words make sense, appeal to others, or even be noticed. Over time, I learned that the key isn’t about being perfect but it’s about showing up, sharing honestly, and connecting with others.
Now, as I start this journey on Substack, I’m bringing those lessons with me. And here’s the truth: your voice matters, and your perspective is needed. It’s time to embrace it.
So, here are three easy steps to get comfortable and start engaging online:
1. Start Small and Stay Consistent
Think of the digital world as a huge park. Pick one platform or space where you feel most comfortable. You can share your thoughts on LinkedIn, comment on Substack posts, or join a Discord group. Starting in a familiar platform makes engaging easier (and less scary). So, please remember: You don’t need to launch with a viral post or grand campaign. Consistency builds confidence, one thoughtful contribution at a time.
2. Engage with Curiosity, Not Perfection
Shift the focus from getting it right to learning and connecting. Treat every online interaction as a chance to grow, not a test you need to pass. Ask questions, share your take, and be open to feedback.
A tip from me is that next time you’re about to post, ask yourself, “Would I share this with a friend?” If the answer is yes, you’re good to go!
3. Be Authentically You
There’s no one-size-fits-all for digital discourse. Your unique perspective is what makes you valuable. Whether it’s your tone, your humor, or the way you connect ideas, lean into what feels true to you.
Building confidence online isn’t about pretending to be fearless, it’s about leaping, even if you feel unsure. And remember: it’s not about the number of likes or followers. It’s about the quality of the conversations you create and the connections you build.
So, what’s one small step you’ll take this week to join the digital conversation? Hit reply or share your thoughts, I’d love to hear from you.
